About EPL

Executive Summary:

• In January of 2003, Energy Performance Lighting was founded as Energy Performance Specialists LLC. Our goal was to expand into many different energy-efficient markets. 
• At the end of 2005 company president, Rodney Heller, bought out his co-owners’ interest, and in 2006 EPL was ready for its first employees.
• EPL saw its biggest growth in 2006 – this year was also the year Heller became Lighting Certified, and became a member of both the National Council for Qualified Lighting Professions, and the Illuminating Engineer Society.
• In 2009, Heller became a Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional through the Association of Energy Engineers. 
• Finally, in 2010, we shifted our primary focus to lighting -- and Energy Performance Specialists LLC was rebranded to Energy Performance Lighting.

An Industry Leader:

When we started out, our primary market was upgrading the lighting systems for school gyms. This was a simple application that we were very good at. Over the years we have grown immensely. As our company and capabilities evolved, we expanded our services to include warehouses, factories, offices and hospitals. Today, we actively seek the tough projects – demonstrating to our customers that the “EPL approach” can save them money, energy, and still offer amazing improvements in lighting quality.

EPL is driving the evolution of best practices in our industry. Our current groundbreaking research includes collaboration with scientists to explore the physiological and psychological effects of lighting in the workplace. The benefit to our customers will be innovative strategies for upgrading lighting –not just to save money– but to increase employee productivity.

Our lighting designers are experts at finding ways to minimize costs for existing systems AND design new systems that save energy and money. To reduce future maintenance costs for our clients, we pay particular attention to:

• Reducing lighting SKU’s, most of the time by 50%
• Locating fixtures in easy to access areas (not at the top of stairwells!)
• Upgrading systems while utilizing existing hardware when possible
