The lighting at B&G Foods was worn out. From the time the old system was last updated, production had been moved around so that the lighting overhead no longer matched the tasks on the ground. Fixtures needed to be NSF® certified compliant and easily accessible. We needed to reduce the types and sizes of lights. The existing lights included metal halide: 150W; 175W; 250W and 400W. The fluorescents were T12 and T8. To complicate installation, the facility could not be shut down.
EPL removed the metal halide fixtures and installed new fluorescent fixtures. We reduced the types of lamps from six to one and we reduced the types of ballasts from six to three. The new fluorescent fixtures reduced the maintenance expenses through simplicity, locating for ease of maintenance, and extending the lamp life by three times (12,000 hours to 36,000 hours).
