Challenge:
Replacing high pressure sodium lights with an energy efficient light source, cold winters, and the space to be lit were all especially challenging factors. However the approval of the CFO hinged on whether all three goals could be achieved.
Solution:
Energy Performance Lighting (EPL) installed T8 fluorescents with dramatically lower lumen output. This would not be enough light if the fixtures were mounted facing straight down. EPL designed a mounting bracket to shoot the light horizontally which lit vertical surfaces, poles, cars, and people. This provided the light level we needed for security while using highly efficient lights. The temperature was overcome by mounting them in a vapor tight fixture using a high quality ballast that starts lamps at –20° F. The ROI with EPL is always guaranteed.
