Lighting Tips

What About Color Temperature?
Lighting designers often refer to the color appearance of a light source as being either "warm" or "cool". The color temperature of a light source is expressed by the thermal unit kelvins (K). The lower the color temperature, the warmer the light source appears; the higher the color temperature, the cooler it appears.
Improve Office Lighting Savings
In most offices, fluorescent lighting is 3500K or 4100K. We have found that by going to 5000K or 6500K, we can lower the light levels with no adverse impact on visual acuity and reduce energy consumption by 50% or more.
Lamp Holder Change
When changing ballasts, always change out the old lamp holders and replace them with new. The old lamp holders wear out over time and could become a fire hazard. It only costs about 50 cents each to get it right!
Save 70% and More By Replacing T12 Lamps
Changing from a T12 (fat fluorescent) to a high efficiency T8 (skinny fluorescent) system can save you as much as 70% on electrical costs while improving light levels. In addition, you can save 80% on maintenance costs.
Program Start Ballast Stretches Lamp Life
Use a program start ballast to get maximum lamp life. It only costs a couple of bucks more, and you can often save one or two lamp changes.
